I was thinking of doing something like that at some point actually. Nothing as heinous as an SBC swap (really not my cup of tea), but the old AJ6 engine was built with a diesel variant in mind.

This means it should be able to take boost. Lots of boost.

Beef up the rest of the driveline and go scare the shit out of some Supras :)

Looks like the UK is full of ratty, old Jags with prices from £400 to £900.

It's what we do :)

I'm surprised more haven't been claimed by banger-racing.

Doooo it! That sounds awesome. There is just something about a big sled (no offense) like this with lots of power that appeals. Especially if you go out wasting lesser cars at the ol stoplight drags. =D

The 4.0L block is built stout. The reciprocating mass is not, and to swap that over it cost $$$$$$$$$$$. At least here.

Yeah, I thought that might be the case. The 4.0l crank is better than the 3.6l, but I don't know by how much.

It'll be easier over here in the UK, but it won't be anywhere near as cheap as a Supra.

You can swap in the pistons and crank from a 4.0l XJR supercharged though. That should be able to handle a decent amount of boost. Failing that, the 3.2l AJ16 was also used as the basis of the engine in the early Aston DB7s, again supercharged. I'm sure you could cobble together something from those parts that could hit high horsepower numbers. Especially with a turbo rather than a Supercharger.
